Osteochondromas
Osteochondromas are the most common benign bone tumor and it is extremely rare for one to transform into a malignant lesion. An osteochondroma can occur in any bone and can be described as a mushroom-shaped growth of cartilage coming out of the bone. Most of these lesions do not need treatment and do not cause pain or discomfort.

In the foot, however, osteochondromas that occur at the end of a toe underneath the nail can cause pain and removing these masses surgically may be needed to eliminate the discomfort.
