Enchondroma
Enchondromas are benign bone tumors made up of cartilage. Most of the time, enchondromas cause no symptoms so the patient may be unaware of the bone tumor. Enchondromas only become a concern when the bone breaks because it is weakened by the tumor or when the bone becomes deformed because of the tumor growing. Enchondromas mainly occur in small bones in the hand and foot. In the foot, they tend to occur in the bones of the toes. If an enchondroma is causing pain which is unlikely, malignant transformation should be considered, however this is rare.
Ollier's disease is a condition in which a person has multiple enchondromas (benign tumors) that can occur in any of the bones of the body.
Malfucci's disease is a condition in which a person has multiple enchondromas (benign tumors) that can occur in any of the bones of the body along with hemangiomas (benign soft tissue tumors associated with blood vessels).
